DBS Promotes Senior Manager To Deputy Head Of Private Bank, Confirms Major Asia Hire

Following this publication's exclusive report earlier this week that , taking up the role of regional head of Southeast Asia at the private banking arm, the Singapore-listed lender has announced that Poon will report to Lawrence Lua, who has been promoted to the role of deputy head of DBS Private Bank.

Lua was previously head of South & Southeast Asia at DBS Private Bank and will continue to report to Tan Su Shan, the group head of consumer banking & wealth management, the Singapore-listed bank announced today. Lua joined DBS Private Bank in 2011.

Poon, as has been reported, was most recently head of UBS Wealth Management - ultra high net worth (relating to clients with over SFr50 million of bankable assets) and the global family office businesses for Southeast Asia.

Together with Poon, Jun Tjandra, head of North Asia Private Banking and Rob Ioannou, head of the international business, will report to Lua.

DBS is one of the largest private banks operating in Asia; as at March this year, assets for HNW individals stood at S$101 billion. Across all wealth customer types, the figure was S$147 billion, it said.

The appointment of Poon comes on top of a number of significant hires by the Singapore bank over the last few months. These include Rob Ioannou from HSBC - he heads up the International business and Jeremy Parlins, from RBC, to lead the bank's UK wealth management push.
